That's right, Homestar Runner fans, you're now just a click away from your very own Teen Girl Squad Winamp player. The skin, much like the online comic strip style, is stylistically simple, to an almost exaggerated extent. The entire interface looks like it was hastily handdrawn, with chicken scratch trapezoids outlining the Play button and childlike handwriting judiciously scattered throughout the display.  

With the plug-in installed, you can control your desktop music player in addition to sharing what you're playing in the status bar. Specifically, you can launch about two dozen supported music players from the Yahoo Messenger interface, manipulating everything from volume to skipping a song. Here's a sampler of integrated players: iTunes, RealPlayer, VLC, Windows Media Player, WinAmp, and MediaMonkey.

While we don't recommend tweaking utilities to the casual or amateur computer user, power users will find these apps handy. They'll allow you to customize Explorer, your context menu, Internet Explorer 8, and much more. The new and improved taskbar is one of the highlight of Windows 7.

Music-download service 7digital faces plenty of skepticism since its U.S. launch two weeks ago. According to Ben Drury, its co-founder and chief executive, many of the questions — how do you compete with iTunes, how do you stand out amid a sea of music services — are valid ones. "We didn't want to just launch a 'me-too' store," he said in an interview in New York, where he's attending the CMJ Music Marathon and meeting with media companies old and new, including CBS, eBay, Pandora and AOL, to discuss potential partnerships.
